A film about the music instinct
Every artist has their own musical intuition. But what triggers them to create music? What drives them? What do they want to tell us with their music? And how does it impact us – the listener? In this film we’ll explore how music instantly transports you to a memory from your past. How a concert experience gives you goosebumps; and ultimately: How music seems to speak directly to our emotions, bypassing our conscious self, plugging straight into the core of our being. What can we know about How Music Plays Us?
Artists have singular perspectives on how to create music, and in this film we ask: How do their musical intuition work? Through their own words we will shape poetic portraits that give us deeper insight into how they create their music. The portraits will be evocative and atmospheric, visualized with footage from the artists surroundings, photo collages and animated sequences.
By diving into the newest insights across several fields of research, the film will show what answers
science can give, and which they cannot. Neuroscientists, psychologists, and philosophers will share their insights about how music hits us with such tremendous power – bodily, emotionally, and existentially: Ultimately, music sets us free, in more ways than one.
The artists are experts on their own music and provide unique perspectives while the scientists try to draw more objective, general and scientific truths. Presented side-by-side, the audiences will get new and more complex understandings of how music affects us.
